From movies to mini-series, 2017 has been quite a year for Zoe Kravitz. The Big Little Lies star, has definitely secured her rightful place as a A-list celebrity and it’s clear that she has no signs of losing ground.
This time, Kravitz graces the cover of ELLE magazine’s January issue. What better way to start off 2018? In ELLE’s exclusive interview, Kravitz sat down with her good friend recording artist and model, Janelle Monae. The two discussed their recent projects, Harvey Weinstein, being a black woman in the entertainment industry and what it’s like growing up with superstar parents.
Zoe…The Jane Of All Trades
Kravitz, 29, is the daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and artist Lenny Kravitz. But having superstar parents doesn’t grant you access to a television.
“My mom would go to the video store, and I was allowed to watch one movie a weekend,” Kravitz told Elle. And that was enough to ignite the acting flame in Kravitz.
Fast forward to now and Kravitz has wrapped up the first season of HBO’s hit series, Big Little Lies earlier this year. “I’ve grown up watching them, and to me they’re just untouchable and so encouraging,” Kravitz said about her co-stars. Kravitz also starred in the hit summer comedy, Rough Night. The all-female cast includes, Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian and IIana Glazer. In the film, Jess, who is played by Scarlett Johansson, reunites with three college friends for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami.
Although, Kravitz’s acting career has soared. Her style is also untouchable.
“Clothes are the gateway to my characters. I watch Audrey Hepburn movies and I want to do my makeup like that,” Kravitz elaborated.
Kravitz’s next venture will be starring in J.K. Rowling’s, Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald alongside Johnny Depp.
While this has been an astonishing year for Kravitz, Monae isn’t too far behind as she continues to excel in the beauty and film industry. In 2016, Monae had the pleasure of starring in two highly anticipated films such as, Hidden Figures and Moonlight.
Moonlight tells the story of a young black man’s journey to manhood that is guided by the support and love of the community that helps to raise him. Moonlight received the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Hidden Figures follows three black women at NASA as they serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history. Hidden Figures received several awards such as, the Screen Actors Guild Award, two NAACP Image Awards and an MTV Movie Award for Best Hero.
